Price
Is the update fee a subscription with another name?
No. It is a dated version with a price that you may buy or skip. Skipping it costs you nothing you already own.
What happens if I skip two updates in a row?
The app keeps running on the tax year it knows. When you do buy an update, you pay for that one update, not for the ones you missed.
Is there a trial?
Thirty days, no card, full app. Buy it after you have closed a real month in it, not before.
Do I pay per device?
No. One licence covers your Mac and your iPhone.
Is boeq cheaper than an accountant?
Yes, and it does less. boeq does the bookkeeping and the aangifte; an adviser does advice. Many people keep both, and the adviser bill gets smaller because the books arrive finished.
The bookkeeping
Does boeq file the aangifte for me?
No. It computes it per rubriek and you type it into Mijn Belastingdienst Zakelijk. The last step is deliberately yours.
Do I need to know bookkeeping?
No. The rubrieken are pre-set for an eenmanszaak. You pick a category; the app keeps the totals.
What happens when I cross the KOR-drempel?
The supply that crosses € 20.000 becomes taxable in full — it is not pro-rated. boeq shows which invoice did it, and what follows for your aangiftetijdvak.
Reverse-charged to an EU customer?
Handled as verlegd with the counterparty BTW-id on the invoice, plus the ICP-opgaaf line that has to follow it. It is not treated as a 0% tariff.
Does it do the IB-aangifte?
It produces the winst-uit-onderneming figures your IB-aangifte needs. The aangifte itself you do at the Belastingdienst.
Where do the tax rates come from?
A tax table shipped with the app for that belastingjaar, dated in the app. The core update brings the next year's table.
Storage and loss
Where exactly are my books?
One encrypted SQLite file per company on your own disk, key generated on-device and kept in the Keychain, excluded from iCloud sync.
What if I lose the Mac?
Backup is opt-in and encrypted before it leaves, into your own iCloud Drive, restored with your passphrase. Lose both the file and the passphrase and it is gone — including for us. That is the trade.
What if boeq goes out of business?
Your books are already on your machine and the app is already installed. There is no server to switch off.
Can I verify that nothing leaves the device?
Watch it with a firewall monitor. There is no telemetry endpoint, no crash reporter and no licence check phoning home.
Can my accountant get access to it?
Export the year and send it. There is no account to invite them into, which is both the limitation and the point.
What boeq does not do
Payroll?
No, and it is not planned. boeq is for the one-person eenmanszaak.
A web version?
No. There is no server, so there is nothing to log into from a borrowed laptop.
Windows or Android?
Later, honestly later. macOS and iOS first, properly, before anything else starts.
Why no Mac App Store build?
Sandboxing fights the backup design. The macOS build is a notarized direct download signed with a Developer ID.
